Scott Lagasse Jr. (/ˈlæɡəs/; born January 31, 1981 in St. Augustine, Florida)[2] is an American racing driver who competes in NASCAR. He currently competes part-time in the Xfinity Series driving the No. 93 car for RSS Racing. He is the son of former sports car and NASCAR driver Scott Lagasse Sr.

Career

Lagasse Jr is a former member of Chip Ganassi Racing's driver development program. He has also driven in a total of 14 ARCA (Auto Racing Club of America) races in 2006, 2007, 2008 for Cunningham Motorsports and Venturini Motorsports, winning twice - Kansas and Chicagoland Speedway. In 2003 & 2004 besides graduating from College with Honors he was racing dirt cars and competed on a limited schedule in the ASA National Touring Series. In just 12 starts Lagasse racked up 8 Top 10, 5 Top 5 and a win at Kentucky Speedway. From 1998 through 2002 he won over 25 races on Dirt and Asphalt in Modifieds, Sportsman, Late Models.

Lagasse made his Busch debut at Phoenix in 2005. He started that race in 33rd position and finished 40th, driving the No. 40 for FitzBradshaw Racing. He only managed a best finish of 22nd at Milwaukee Mile and a best start of 18th at Dover International Speedway. Originally scheduled to run the Busch Series for Chip Ganassi Racing in 2006, CGR's lack of sponsorship caused Dodge to ask Bobby Hamilton to add a third Truck for a partial schedule for Lagasse to gain some experience.

Lagasse Jr. was expected to run the majority of the races for the No. 04 Dodge in 2006 for Bobby Hamilton Racing. Kevin Hamlin and David Stremme both made starts in the truck so that they could get seat time. Lagasse made ten races before BHR sponsorship troubles forced him out of the ride. His best finish was 18th at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Lagasse spent 2007 driving two races for Ganassi Racing in the No. 41 Wrigley's Juicy Fruit car in the Busch Series, posting two top-fifteen qualifying efforts but failing to finish higher than 34th. He also drove one Truck race for Xpress Motorsports at Dover, finishing twenty-first. He signed to drive the No. 20 Ford for JTG Racing in the Truck Series in 2008, with sponsorship from The Nicholson Group, but the team closed midway through the season. He remained unemployed until late that season, when he joined CJM Racing. He raced for them in 2009 until he was released after Iowa. He drove the No. 43 (formerly No. 37) for Baker Curb Racing in 2010 for a limited schedule.[3]

In 2012 Lagasse returned to the Nationwide Series, driving his own No. 8 Chevrolet with sponsorship from the Boy Scouts of America on a limited schedule torwards the end of the season;[4] this was planned to lead into a full 2013 season in the series.[3]

Personal life

Lagasse was born on January 31, 1981 in St. Augustine, Florida.[5] He attended St. Joseph Academy Catholic High School.[6] As a student, Lagasse played basketball before graduating with a Florida academic scholarship.[6] Afterward, he proceeded to pursue an associate's degree in at the University of Central Florida, while competing in local off-road and asphalt races on weekends.[6] He continued his education at Flagler College, where he pursued a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.[3][7] Lagasse graduated with honors from Flagler College in 2004, despite competing in the American Speed Association (ASA) National Touring Series.[6][7]

Lagasse is a spokesperson for Florida Department of Transportation's 'Alert Today Florida' campaign, which raises awareness about pedestrian and bicyclist safety.[8] In 2015, he established a 60-mile (97 km) charity bike event at Daytona International Speedway.[8] The event, called Champions Ride for Bicycle Safety, attracts professional bicyclists, NASCAR drivers, and triathletes to support the 'Alert Today Florida' campaign.[8] He is married to his wife Kelley, and has one daughter, who was born in 2015.
