Shadow Hills High School is a public high school for grades 9-12. It is located in north Indio, California, USA.
Other high schools in the area are Indio High School, La Quinta High School and Palm Desert High School. The main feeder school are Indio Middle School and Desert Ridge Academy which replaced the former Woodrow Wilson Middle School in 2009.[citation needed]
History
Shadow Hills High School opened on August 31, 2009, with about 600 freshman and sophomore students. The high school is the fourth in the Desert Sands Unified School District.[1]
Shadow Hills has 84 classrooms, a 400-seat performing arts theater, an 80-seat lecture hall and a three-court gymnasium.[2]
In July of 2012, Marcus Wood, the former principal of John Glenn Middle School in Desert Sands Unified, succeeded the recently retired Doug Bluth as the school's second principal.[3]
Shadow Hills High School athletics compete in the De Anza league.
Marching Band
The Regiment of the Realm, the Shadow Hills High School marching band, first received global recognition after having participated at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival on April 13th and April 20th alongside the group Big Gigantic. With 34 local marching band students, the Regiment of the Realm performed a remix of "Can't Hold Us" and "I Need A Dollar" with Big Gigantic and quickly gained local fame for their performance at one of the biggest music festivals in the world.
Recently, the Regiment of the Realm was featured in the One Direction music video "Steal My Girl" in which 40 members of the marching band are seen dancing and One Direction member Liam Payne is seen wearing the drum major uniform. Michael Abbott, representative for Los Angeles based producers Move Films, phone called the director of the band Paul Bluto asking if the marching band could be in a music video after remembering seeing the marching band at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, in which he shot video. On September 30th, 40 band members had their phones confiscated that morning and were driven to an unknown destination believing they were going to be in a movie. Having arrived in the set, some of the band members quickly picked up on clues such as the constant playback of One Direction's latest single "Steal My Girl" and their suspicions came to an end when Liam Payne showed up wearing their drum major uniform. After filming the video, the students were to remain quiet of what had happened on set until the music video was released. While on set, the band got one of their drum major uniforms signed by Liam Payne while another student got his gloved autographed by 3 members of One Direction.
