Slovak Telekom (in the past officially called Slovenské telekomunikácie and Slovak Telecom; the brand used for fixed line products was T-Com from March 2006 to January 2012. By 2012 is only one brand for mobile products and fixed line products: Telekom[1]) is the largest telecommunications company operating in Slovakia (after consolidation with its 100 per cent daughter T-Mobile Slovakia).

Ownership

It is majority owned (51 percent) by Germany's Deutsche Telekom. The remaining share is owned by Slovakia's Ministry of Transport, Posts and Telecommunications, which owns 34 percent, and the National Property Fund of the Slovak Republic, which owns 15 percent. On July 1, 2010 Slovak Telekom officially merged with the mobile provider T-Mobile.

Slovak Telekom sale on horizon

The Slovak government has made another step toward the sale of a minority stake in Slovak Telekom. In April 2015 it approved an amendment to the privatization act extending the means for the sale of state assets to include the stock exchange.[2] In May 2015 Deutsche Telekom announced the acquisition of the full 49% stake owned by the Slovak government for €900 Million.[3]

Nationwide 4G/LTE network launched

Slovak Telekom has launched a 4G LTE network originally in five cities in Slovakia as the first Slovak operator in 2013[4] The network operates at 1800 MHz and offers a maximum theoretical speed of 73Mbit/s download and 23Mbit/s upload. Circuit-switched fallback (CSFB) ensures that voice calls and text messages are delivered to LTE devices through the use of a 2G/3G circuit-switched network.
