Staroyuryevsky District (Russian: Старою́рьевский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[2] district (raion), one of the twenty-three in Tambov Oblast, Russia. It is located in the northwest of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,040 square kilometers (400 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Staroyuryevo.[1] Population: 14,553 (2010 Census);[3] 17,695 (2002 Census);[6] 21,852 (1989 Census).[7] The population of Staroyuryevo accounts for 42.2% of the district's total population.[3]
