State holidays in New Jersey

The State of New Jersey has 12 legal holidays of which 10 are federal holidays.[1] If a holiday falls on a Saturday, it is usually observed as a day off on Friday, and if it falls on a Sunday, it is observed on the following Monday.
All non-retail jobs are closed on state holidays, except few private-owned jobs that may close only on the big holidays. Nearly all retail jobs are only closed for Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. However, some stores might have half day on some or all of the holidays.
New Jersey state holidays:
- January 1 - New Year's Day
- 3rd Monday in January - Martin Luther King Day
- 3rd Monday in February - Washington's Birthday (called "Presidents Day" in New Jersey)
- variable date - Good Friday
- Last Monday in May - Memorial Day
- July 4 - Independence Day
- 1st Monday in September - Labor Day
- 2nd Monday in October - Columbus Day
- Tuesday after 1st Monday in November - Election Day
- November 11 - Veterans Day
- 4th Thursday in November - Thanksgiving
- December 25 - Christmas Day
Additional New Jersey Judicial Holiday
- Friday following 4th Thursday in November - Day After Thanksgiving (this used to be a state holiday for all branches of government; and it is sometimes still proclaimed as a holiday for the Judicial branch of government, usually not until November.)[2]
The following days occasionally have early dismissal, depending on a decision of the Governor, usually not memorialized in any specific Executive Order:
- December 24 - Christmas Eve
- December 31 - New Year's Eve
