Stites & Harbison is a law practice with offices in Louisville, Lexington and Frankfort, Kentucky; Jeffersonville, Indiana; Nashville and Franklin, Tennessee; Atlanta, Georgia; and Alexandria, Virginia. U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers listed Stites & Harbison among America's Top 25 Law Firms in First Tier Ratings.[citation needed]
Tracing its origins to 1832, Stites & Harbison is one of the oldest law practices in the nation. One of the firm's first partners was James Speed, who later served as U.S. Attorney General for President Abraham Lincoln.
The firm created its Atlanta office in May 1999, by merging with Varner, Stephens, Humphries & White. And, effective January 1, 2000, Stites & Harbison merged with the intellectual property practice of Wheat, Smith & Beres, PLC. On January 1, 2001, Stites & Harbison combined with the Nashville firm of Farris, Warfield & Kanaday. On January 1, 2004, the firm merged with the intellectual property firm of Larson & Taylor.
