When used with the "This is a redirect" (Redr) template:

When used by itself:

• This is a redirect from a title that is another name, a pseudonym, a nickname, or a synonym that has a significant historic past, e.g., a region, state, principate's holding, city, city-state or such, and which region has been subsumed into a modern era municipality, district or state, or otherwise has experienced a name change. For more information follow the bold category link.
  • This redirect leads to its target in accordance with the naming conventions for common names and can help writing. However, do not replace this type of redirected link with a piped link unless the page is updated for another reason.
