Tony McConkey (born November 21, 1963) was first elected to serve in the Maryland House of Delegates in 2002, taking the seat of former Delegate Janet Greenip, who ran for a State Senate seat. McConkey serves in District 33, which is located in Anne Arundel County Maryland. He won reelection in 2006.[1] He serves along with fellow Republican Cathy Vitale.

Born in Cheverly, Maryland, November 21, 1963. University of Maryland, College Park, B.A. (government & politics), 1986; B.S. (business management), 1986. University of Maryland School of Law, J.D., 1990. Real estate broker. Property manager, Aegis Management. Member, Anne Arundel County Republican Central Committee, 1995-2002. Delegate, Republican Party National Convention, 2008. Member, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus. Married; three children.

Career

In addition to serving as a delegate, McConkey is also a real estate broker and property manager for Sell DC Real Estate.

As a member of the Republican Party in the Maryland House of Delegates, he serves as Ranking Member on the House Appropriations Committee.

In 1995, McConkey agreed to be disbarred[2]

McConkey fought in March 2007 to allow for an elected school board in Anne Arundel County. However, a bill was passed that allowed the Governor to select the members from a list. McConkey and Warren Miller were the only dissenting votes.[3]

Another issue that McConkey advocates is limiting privileges for illegal immigrants. He co-sponsored a bill in the House, similar to the one submitted by State Senator Greenip that would require driver's license applicants to prove they are citizens of the United States.[4] Currently, Maryland is one of several states that does not demand proof of citizenship to obtain a driver's license.[5]

McConkey's real estate license was suspended[6] in 2010 after he pleaded guilty to violating laws that protect homeowners during foreclosure. In 2013, he was reprimanded by the House for introducing legislation that would have personally benefited him.[7]
