The 1960 United States presidential election was held on November 8, 1960. The Democratic Party candidate John F. Kennedy, narrowly won the state of Texas with 50.52% of the vote to the Republican candidate Vice President Richard Nixon's 48.52%, a margin of 2%, giving him the state's 24 electoral votes. Despite the presence of U.S. Senator Lyndon B. Johnson on the Democratic ticket, the results in Texas made the state the 10th closest state in the election. Nixon's strong performance in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Harris County, and the Panhandle, kept the race close.

Nixon would narrowly lose Texas again in 1968, although he did win the Presidency that year. In 1972, he sought re-election and won Texas with an overwhelming 66% of the popular vote.
