Vicchio is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Florence in the Italian region Tuscany, located about 25 kilometres (16 mi) northeast of Florence. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 7,736 and an area of 139.0 square kilometres (53.7 sq mi).[1]

Vicchio borders the following municipalities: Borgo San Lorenzo, Dicomano, Marradi, Pontassieve.

Three famous Italian painters were born near Vicchio: Giotto (in the frazione of Colle di Vespignano), Fra Angelico (at Rupecanina) and Armeno Mattioli. There is a 3.2 meter statue of Giotto in Vicchio's central square, the Piazza di Giotto.[2] It was also the birthplace of Jean-Baptiste Lully (Baptized Giovanni Battista Lulli), who would become the founder of the French opera tradition.
