Vivek has been quite vocal about social issues since a while and has been voicing his opinion on social media and news media. He led the integral part of the movement countering the protests by writers and artistes against "rising intolerance", against the rebel group along with Anupam Kher, Madhur Bhandarkar, Manoj Joshi, Ashoke Pandit and many more.[3][4] He was a part of a debate on the same topic on Arnab Goswami aired live on times now on 7 November 2015 along with Manoj Joshi.

The film would have a theatrical release in 2015.[5][6] The film is an official entry in the 5th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festivaland received three nominations in Madrid International Film Festival in the Best Foreign Language Film to Vivek Agnihotri,[7] Best Original Screenplay of a Foreign Language, again written by Vivek Agnihotri himself [8] and Best Lead Actress in a foreign language to actress Mahi Gill.[9]
Agnihotri states that erotic scenes for Zid were shot without approval and presence, changing it from a psycho thriller to an erotic thriller against his wishes.[10][11] He states he was unsuccessful in his efforts to remove his name from the film.
