The Waxahachie Independent School District is a public school district located in Waxahachie, Texas, a suburban community serving as the county seat for Ellis County which adjoins Dallas County to the north. Waxahachie ISD is a district of approximately 8,000 students [1] structured in thirteen campuses: 7 elementary school campuses, 2 junior high campuses, 3 high school campuses and 1 alternative learning campus. The campuses are Marvin Elementary, Clift Elementary, Dunaway Elementary, Felty Elementary, Northside Elementary, Shackleford Elementary, Wedgeworth Elementary, Finley Junior High, Howard Junior High, Waxahachie High School, Waxahachie Global High, Waxahachie Ninth Grade Academy, and Turner Learning Center.

Marvin Elementary is the headstart of WISD. It has early childhood programs and a teaches prekindergarten students. Dunaway and Wedgeworth Elementary have kindergarten through 5th grade as well as a bilingual program. The rest of the elementary schools, which are Felty, Clift, Northside, and Shackleford, also have kindergarten through 5th grade but do not have a bilingual program.

As for the junior highs which are Finley and Howard they have grades 6-8 and have sports which includes football, basketball, volleyball, cheerleader, tennis, and track and field. The junior highs also have band, choir, and theatre arts.

Opened on August 27, 2007, Waxahachie Global High School, is an Early College and a Texas-STEM school emphasizing instruction in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in a small-learning-community environment. Considered one of the best high schools in the state of Texas, Global was named a 2014 "Best High School" by U.S. News and World Report.[2]

Waxahachie High School is classified as 5A and offers a range of extracurricular activities to its students, including football, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, concert and marching band, drama, choir, drill team, and dozens of academic teams and clubs. WISD offers several CTSO's to its students including FFA, Skills USA and TSA. Also known for its state-of-the-art football stadium known as Lumpkins Stadium

The district also consists of a career and technology education center, a ninth grade academy, and an alternative learning center. The career and technology education center is called Billy Bates Career and Technology Center and offers all students in the district opportunities to master career and technology classes. The Waxahachie Ninth Grade Academy is connected to the high school in a separate building that all freshman of WHS attend. The learning center is called Turner Learning Center and consists of the Waxahachie High School of Choice which is an alternative high school for at-risk high school student of WISD. It also has the District Challenge Academy (where students are sent for bad behavior) and a day care center.

In 2012-13 and 2013–14, the school district and all campuses received the highest Texas Education Agency accountability rating of "Met Standard." [3] In 2014, the NAMM Foundation awarded the district a Best Communities for Music Education designation, one of only 376 districts to receive the prestigious award.[4]
