Argo Navis is a bi-monthly Chilean magazine of popular science, centred on astronomy, and focused on Spanish-speaking amateur astronomers. Its first issue was published in April 2005.

Characteristics

The publication is online only, and is distributed free of charge in PDF format under a Creative Commons license. It has sections on mythology, sky charts, interviews, astronomical articles and news and astrophotography. Argo Navis' publishers are amateur astronomers living in the Antofagasta Region, home to some of the most important observatories in the world and known for its exceptional conditions for astronomic observation. Amateur astronomer Farid Char is the journal's editor-in-chief.

Name

The journal's name comes from the ship Argo, that was used by Jason and the Argonauts to search for the Golden fleece. Argo Navis was the biggest constellation of the sky; nowadays it is disintegrated in 4 constellations: Vela (the Sails), Puppis (the stern), Carina (the keel) and Pyxis (the compass).
