Bala Sawant birth name Prakash Sawant was a two term member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly & a senior Shiv Sena leader .He had first won the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election, 2009 election from Bandra East constituency on a Shiv Sena ticket He died on 9 Jan 2015.[1][2] In 2014 he got into a controversy over slum redevelopment in his constituency where he was booked for assault. [3][4]

Political career

Bala Sawant was first elected to the Bombay Municipal Corporation BMC as a corporator from Kherwadi in 1997.[5] He served two more terms as a corporator in the BMC even as he won the assembly polls in 2009. He was re-elected to Vidhan Sabha as a Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 2014. Sawant headed the BMC's law panel for two consecutive terms.

Personal Life

Bala Sawant was married to Trupti Sawant and they have a daughter. After his death his wife Trupti Sawant won the election from Bandra East constituency the seat he held and that was vacated after his death.[6][7] [8]
