Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Category main article' not found. Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums is a grouping of museums in the north east of England. They have been administered by a joint board of local authorities since the abolition of the Tyne and Wear Metropolitan County Council. They receive additional financial support from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
The museums in each local authority area are:
- Gateshead: - Shipley Art Gallery (founded 1917)
- Newcastle: - Discovery Museum (founded 1934); Great North Museum: Hancock (founded 1829); Laing Art Gallery (founded 1901)
- North Tyneside: - Segedunum Roman Fort, Baths & Museum (founded 2000); Stephenson Railway Museum (founded 1986)
- South Tyneside: - Arbeia Roman Fort & Museum (founded 1953); South Shields Museum & Art Gallery (founded 1876)
- Sunderland: - Monkwearmouth Station Museum (founded 1973); Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens (founded 1846); Washington F Pit (founded 1976)
Note: Not all museums in the region are part of the official "Tyne and Wear Museum".
