Clausura 2016 Liga MX final phase

The Clausura 2016 Liga MX championship stage commonly known as liguilla (mini league) wass being played from May 11, 2016 to May 29, 2016. A total of eight teams were competing in the championship stage to decide the champions of the Clausura 2016 Liga MX season. Both finalists qualified to the 2016–17 CONCACAF Champions League.

1 The first 8 places in the table (excluding the last place team in the relegation table) qualify for the Liguilla.
2 The team that is relegated from Liga MX after the Clausura tournament is ineligible for the Liguilla regardless of its position in the standings.
(C) = Champion; (R) = Relegated; (P) = Promoted; (E) = Eliminated; (O) = Play-off winner; (A) = Advances to a further round.
Only applicable when the season is not finished:
(Q) = Qualified to the phase of tournament indicated; (TQ) = Qualified to tournament, but not yet to the particular phase indicated; (RQ) = Qualified to the relegation tournament indicated; (DQ) = Disqualified from tournament.

Format

  • Teams are re-seeded each round.
  • Team with more goals on aggregate after two matches advances.
  • Away goals rule is applied in the quarterfinals and semifinals, but not the final.
  • In the quarterfinals and semifinals, if the two teams are tied on aggregate and away goals, the higher seeded team advances.
  • In the final, if the two teams are tied after both legs, the match goes to extra time and, if necessary, a shoot-out.
  • Both finalists qualify to the 2016–17 CONCACAF Champions League (in Pot 3).
