Articulation

In India, a diploma is a specific academic award usually earned in professional/vocational courses, e.g., Engineering, Pharmacy, Design, etc. In such cases, a diploma is specific in rank than a bachelor's degree of that discipline but equivalent to general degree in that discipline, e.g., Diploma in Engineering of Electronics Engineering is rated differently from Bachelor of Technology in Electronics Engineering but is equivalent to Bachelor of Science in Electronics. The course structure and syllabus may be considered as a comparative with other disciplines of engineering studies. Students enter diploma courses after 10 years of school education, whereas the degree programs require 12 years of schooling.

Also diploma is concentrated for the area of study, e.g., Diploma in Engineering of Electronics Engineering may be in Advanced Communication Systems (ACS) or Integrated Circuits (IC) or Industrial Electronics (IE). Successful Engineering Studies (subject to course selection) allows articulation (also known as Lateral Entry) into the second year of Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology programs.

Bangladesh

In Bangladesh Diploma in engineering degree can be obtained from the government (e.g. Dhaka Polytechnic Institute , Khulna Polytechnic Institute Chittagong Polytechnic Institute) or private Polytechnic Institutes where a student have to study for a period of four years. A student can apply for admission to Diploma course after completion of Secondary School Certificate. After completion of Diploma course one can apply for 1st year undergraduate admission in some of the public (e.g. DUET or SUST or JUST) and most of the private universities where they have to study for 4 years to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Engineering but university's in Australia and United Kingdom accept at latest one year progression(Recognition of prior learning) for Diploma in engineering graduate from BTEB.Diploma in Engineering degree is comparable to BTEC National diploma by UK NARIC.

India

In India a Diploma in Engineering is a specific academic award usually awarded in technical or vocational courses e.g. Engineering, Pharmacy, Designing, etc. Studies of Diploma in Engineering is usually held in Polytechnic institutes recognized by respective State Boards of Technical Education/Examination (e.g. Uttar Pradesh Board of Technical Education) and/or State Departments/Directorates of Technical Educations and All India Council for Technical Education.[1] Diploma Holders can sit for the exam of Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers (A.M.I.E) membership, Member of Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering,Navi Mumbai which is equivalent to the BE Degree. Diploma holders are also eligible for lateral entry to the third semester Engineering Courses in various Technical Universities like UPTU, VTU, etc. Diploma holders are eligible for part-time entry to Bachelor of Engineering Courses in various Technical Universities like Sri Sai Group of Institutes (Pathankot, Amritsar, Palampur), Manipal Institute of Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia and Delhi Technological University][NTTF Technical training center].uttarakhand board of technical education, roorkie(dehradun)

Pakistan

In Pakistan, a Diploma is a specific academic award usually earned in professional/vocational courses e.g. Engineering, Nursing, Fashion, etc. In such cases, a dipelor's degree of that discipline. As diploma studies started on vocational route of study after school for three years, the Bachelor of Technology is the logical next degree for diploma graduates. Also Diploma is concentrated for the area of study, e.g., Diploma in Engineering of Electronics Engineering or Industrial Electronics, Civil Engineering. Graduates of Diplomas work as associates to Engineers and are often called Associate Engineers. Few Postgraduate Diploma or PGD are ranked higher than the bachelor's degree as they are completed after graduation. These are normally a year's worth of coursework after a university degree.
