History
In January 2015, Thomas Masters, the mayor of Riviera Beach, Florida, attempted to have a stretch of Dixie Highway renamed "Barack Obama Highway."[1] The plan has not come to fruition.
East coast route
The route below is in order from north to south.
Through St. Johns County, the Dixie Highway followed what currently exists as Old Dixie Highway from the Duval-St. Johns county line to Cezanne Circle, where it followed the northern part of Cezanne to Old Dixie Highway, once again. From there, it diverts away from U.S. Route 1 briefly, heading outwards to meet a small farm road that extends to the Intracoastal Waterway. It comes back and from there is cut into sections; usually only accessible from U.S. 1. It resumes south of Palencia, the road below Catlett Road and Crooked Creek Lane, as Old Dixie Drive. It soon renames to Old Dixie Highway once again. It has another gap at the airport, but resumes as U.S. Route 1. It proceeds onto San Marco Avenue, and turns right onto King Street. It turns left onto Leonard Street, which becomes Old Dixie Highway. [Please help fill in data between St. Augustine and Hastings, FL]. In Hastings, it follows Main Street onto County Route 13. It follows County Route 13 until it turns right to stay on it, and becomes Old Brick Road. It then proceeds into Flagler County. In Palm Beach County, the city of Riviera Beach renamed the stretch within the city limits to President Barack Obama Highway because town officials felt it had racist connotations.[2]
