Father's Office is a gastropub located at 1018 Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, California and has become famous for the Office Burger,[1] which Esquire Magazine called one of the best burgers in the world.[2]

History

Father's Office was founded in 1953. One of Southern California's early adopters of the craft beer movement, Father's Office was one of the first bars to offer all of Anchor Brewing's beers in the 1970s and 80's. Many of California's first wave of micro-brews could be found on tap including Sierra Nevada, Anderson Valley and Anchor Brewing.

Father's Office was purchased in 2000 by owner and head chef Sang Yoon who had cooked gourmet California cuisine at Michael's restaurant in Santa Monica, California when the itch for his own place hit, he took over a tiny, unpretentious local bar called Father's Office and added his own touches. Yoon opened the bar's kitchen which had previously offered only cheese plates and a list of local delivery options for patrons to bring in.[3] The main attraction turned out to be the Office Burger, a patty of fine dry-aged beef topped with caramelized onions, Gruyère and Maytag cheeses, applewood-smoked bacon compote and arugula served on a soft roll.[4]

Sang Yoon is infamous for allowing no substitutions or alterations of any type on the food served at Father's Office, including no ketchup.[5]

A second Father's Office location in the Helms Bakery building in Los Angeles, California was opened in April 2008.[6][7]
