Good Morning Britain

Good Morning Britain (often shortened to GMB) is a British breakfast programme, broadcast weekdays from 6:00am to 8:30am on the ITV television network. Good Morning Britain was launched on 28 April 2014. Good Morning Britain has an audience share of 13.5%, with around 700,000 tuning in.

In its two years on air, there have been various main presenters; from the beginning in April 2014, the hosts were Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard, Charlotte Hawkins and Sean Fletcher, but in January 2015, Reid and Shephard were the two main hosts, with Hawkins reading the news and Fletcher became sports editor. In September 2015, Shephard cut his appearances to just two days a week, with Kate Garraway covering the other three until November 2015 when Piers Morgan joined the presenting line-up. Garraway currently co-hosts the programme on Thursdays and Fridays and is often joined by Ranvir Singh.

Special editions

The programme has been extended out of its time slot to cover major news stories:

  • On 19 September 2014 to cover the Scottish independence referendum result until 10am, presented by Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid from Edinburgh as Scotland Decides.
  • On 2 December 2014, Phillip Schofield co-hosted Good Morning Britain with Susanna Reid as part of a 24-hour TV presenting challenge for Text Santa.
  • On Bank Holidays, the programme is shortened in length, running from 7am until 8:30am.
  • For the first time in ITV Breakfast history, Good Morning Britain was taken off air completely on Good Friday (25 March 2016) after a fire in The London Studios. The show was replaced by a pre-recorded segment of Good Morning Britain and a repeat of Dinner Date.

Awards and nominations

Good Morning Britain was nominated for three TRIC Awards in 2015. Susanna Reid won Newscaster of the Year during the awards ceremony.[10]

"Newscast Studio" named the programme's set as Best International Set of the Year 2015.[11]

Good Morning Britain has been nominated in the 2016 TV choice awards for the "Best Daytime tv programme".[12]
