Hu Deping (胡德平) (born November 1942) is the vice chairman of All-China General Chamber of Industry & Commerce, Secretary of National Association of Industry and Commerce (under the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China)[1] and vice minister of the Propaganda Department of the Communist Party of China. He is the eldest son of Hu Yaobang.[2]

He is a famous economist in mainland China. In the 1970s, Hu Deping was largely responsible for restoring archaeology as an academic discipline after its destruction in the so-called "Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution" (无产阶级文化大革命) of 1966-1969. He is an acknowledged expert on the classic 18th century novel "Dream of the Red Chamber" (红楼梦) by Cao Xueqin.
