France
Died 20 November 1715
Pointe-aux-Trembles (Neuville)

Jean Basset (c. 1645 – 20 November 1715) was a priest in New France from 1675 until his death.

Basset's origins are basically unknown although we know that he arrived from France with a group of other ecclesiastics from the diocese of Lyons and he was ordained later that year. He was a parish priest in a variety of parishes during the remainder of his life. Through a donation of land and a farm to the Congrégation de Notre-Dame and much work by himself and Mother Bourgeoys, he was able to endow his parish of Pointe-aux-Trembles with a convent of these sisters.

History notes that Basset contributed to his region by carrying out notary work in his region since a recognized notary was not available. He drafted numerous of acts for the residents and; these acts are still on record in the registries of various notaries.
