The New Zealand Music People's Choice Award is a New Zealand Music Award that honours New Zealand music artists. The public votes for award nominess via text messaging.[1] It was first awarded to Scribe in 2004. Fat Freddy's Drop won the People's Choice Award in 2005 and 2006 and Stan Walker won it in 2010 and 2014. In 2008 The DFenders attracted controversy after extensively lobbying their fans and making the nomination shortlist for the award despite not being well-known and not having any material chart.[2] Stan Walker has been nominated for the award every year since 2010, when he won. Brooke Fraser has been nominated three times and she won in 2011.
