ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN (OEB) is an annual international conference on technology-supported learning and training (e-learning) launched in Berlin, Germany in 1995.

Since its inception, all ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN (OEB) conferences have taken place in Berlin’s central district Mitte in November or early December of each year. The first OEB was hosted at the Berlin Congress Center (bcc); it then moved to the Hotel InterContinental Berlin in 1996 where it has taken place for the subsequent years.

The conferences were organised by ICWE GmbH and supported by the German Federal Minister of Education and Research and the European Commission (Directorate-General for Education and Culture). Each year the conference attracts around 2,000 learning and training professionals from over 100 countries.

Delegates are high-level decision-makers from the education, business and government sectors, making OEB an important networking venue for experts, practitioners and newcomers of e-learning and distance education alike. Training specialists hold lectures and seminars and lead discussions and workshops in which current trends and the latest developments are introduced. The kinds of interactive, knowledge sharing sessions at OEB include Pre-Conference Workshops, Pre-Conference Seminars, Presentation Sessions, Research Domain Presentation Sessions, Discovery Demos, Knowledge Exchange Sessions, Discussions and Debates, LAB Sessions and Learning Cafés.

The 20th ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN has taken place from 3 – 5 December 2014, at the Hotel InterContinental Berlin, around the theme ‘Changing Learning’. Within the frame of ‘Changing Learning’, themes for ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN 2014 included Better and Best Practices; Training, Learning and Talent Development Strategies; The Cutting Edge; The Education Ecosystem; The New Business of Learning and Big Data for Education, Learning and Training.

The event is held entirely in English and is accompanied by an exhibition at which international e-learning manufacturers, suppliers and service providers present their latest products and services.

Business EDUCA

Introduced in 2010 as part of the conference programme, Business EDUCA offers participants a range of sessions through which to discuss research, needs and trends in corporate learning. Business EDUCA attracts strong interest from HR and learning practitioners from companies across the world, as well as researchers and educationalists. Examples of some of the themes covered in Business EDUCA include: discovering top strategies to implement and embed workplace learning, learning from examples of best – and worst – practice from other organisations, as well as developing techniques for nurturing exceptional leadership.

Video EDUCA

Video EDUCA offers a rich mix of practical sessions, workshops, masterclasses and lively discussions on all aspects of using video in learning. Participants in Video EDUCA have the opportunity to interact with leading international film and television directors, producers, executives and technicians to share ideas and learn from the professionals.

Security and Defence Learning

Over the past decade, the need has arisen for soldiers, policemen or emergency responders to have high quality ICT training that is sufficiently flexible to meet the challenge of a rapidly changing environment. Whether in the development of gaming and simulation technologies, the employment of distance learning to ensure effective 'just-in-time' training packages or the enthusiastic use of mobiles and tablets, the sector has been both a notable innovator and a significant investor in ICT for learning. ONLINE EDUCA BERLIN’s 'Security and Defence Learning' track, which is hosted by the New Security Foundation, provides an opportunity for participants to take part in a dialogue with security professionals about new threats and challenges, lessons for other sectors, future requirements and more.
