ReelWorld Film Festival
ReelWorld Film Festival is a five-day film festival held annually in downtown Toronto. The festival screens "features, shorts, documentaries, animation, music videos from the Aboriginal, Asian, Black, Latino, Middle Eastern, South Asian and other multi-racial communities."[1]
History
ReelWorld was founded by Tonya Lee Williams who noted the lack of opportunities for people of colour to break into the film industry. The festival's mandate states that they showcase diverse work from Canada and abroad while bringing together assorted communities. Since 2001, ReelWorld has started a number of initiatives directed towards diverse artists ReelWorld celebrates its 15th year -- hosting industry panels at CBC Headquarters in Toronto, and presenting films at ScotiaBank Theatres in Toronto and Cineplex Odeon First Markham Place in Markham.
ReelYouth
Reel Youth works with youth-oriented organizations to bring films to under-resourced communities in order to foster and educational and positive environment in which to grow up.
Face2Face
Face to Face is a program that sets up emerging filmmakers with one-on-one meetings with industry professionals. They may pitch their films, ask for advice, or just have a chance to meet their idol.
Industry Series
The industry series usually comprises five panels in a range of subjects. Past subjects have been film distribution, producing, creating a career in acting, and directing.
