The SJT class remotely operated underwater vehicles are a series of Chinese ROVs jointly developed by the Shenyang Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Science, and the Institute of Underwater Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SHJTU). The general designer of the SJT class of ROVs is Mr. Zhu Jimao (朱继懋), a professor at SHJTU, who is also the general designer of the earlier Type 7103 DSRV.

HR-01 ROUV

The origin of SJT class ROUV begins with HR-01 (Hai-Ren Yi-Hao, 海人一号, literal meaning: Sea Person # 1), one of the very first indigenously developed ROUVs. Work begun in 1981 and the ROUV entered service in the winter of 1985. HR-01 is equipped with manipulator and underwater sensors, with a maximum operating depth of 200 meters, and in 1989, it won the 2nd place in the Science and Technology Advance Award of Chinese Academy of Science. Despite its successful application, HR-01 did not enter series production, and work was redirected to JH-01 ROUV.

JH-01 ROUV

The 2nd member of SJT class ROUV is JH-01 ROUV, developed by the same developer. JH-01 ROUV is a ROUV specifically designed to meet the urgent need of ROUV that is used to for underwater dam inspection and maintenance. The first customer of JH-01 is Hai He Hydraulic Works Committee, and the performance of JH-01 was satisfactory enough for more orders from different customers, including the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), which deployed JH-01 for breakwater inspection and maintenance, in the same way JH-01 is used to inspect and maintain dams of reservoirs.

SJT-5 ROUV

SJT-5 ROUV is a micro ROUV that is used for underwater observation. Equipped with underwater color television and high power search light, it could provide clear images in water and record the images taken in recorders. Equipped with four electrically powered propellers, SJT-5 ROUV can perform complex underwater maneuvers to obtain the optimum position for observation. Specifications:

  • Weight: 12 kg
  • Length: 58 cm
  • Width: 46 cm
  • Height: 25 cm
  • Propulsion: 4 electrically powered propellers
  • Underwater television: New Vicon color TV
  • Elevation & Depression: + 30 to – 45 degrees
  • Tether diameter: 12 mm
  • Maximum tether tension: 290 kg
  • Maximum operating depth: 150 meters

SJT-10 ROUV

SJT-10 ROUV is a light ROUV with a single manipulator, and it is primarily used for underwater works for offshore oil platforms. The secondary application of SJT-10 is in salvage. Other application included similar works for underwater structures in the inland waterways.

SJT-40 ROUV

SJT-40 ROUV is a ROUV is the most capable member of SJT class ROUV, and it also the one with the deepest diving capability: up to 400 meters. SJT-40 ROUV has two manipulators and it capable of performing a variety of underwater works, and like other members of SJT class ROUV, it is in service with both the civilian and military operators.

HR-02 ROUV

HR-02 ROUV is a development of HR-01 ROUV based on the experience gained from later models of SJT class ROUV. The exact status HR-02 is subject to debate: while some have claimed that it is only the later production version of earlier HR-01 incorporating features of later models, others have also claimed that these improvements are significant enough to warrant its own classification instead of simply a continuation of the production of earlier HR-01.
