Shah Niaz (Persian: شاه نياز, also Romanized as Shāh Nīāz)[1] is a village in Miyan Velayat Rural District, in the Central District of Mashhad County, Razavi Khorasan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its existence was noted, but its population was not reported.[2] Following the Islamic Revolution of 1979, numerous failed attempts were made to rename this village to Imam Niaz due to sensitivities regarding the name "Shah" meaning King in Persian - a reminiscent of Iran's Pahlavi dynasty. The village today is a private farm of 150 hectares and continues to be known as Shah Niaz.
