Academics

Tennyson offers Advanced Placement classes.

There is something magical that I feel as I traverse through the hallways and rooms of my alma mater. It's as if Tennyson High School is entering upon a new era. The times in which we teach are calling for the boldness, for the creativity, and for the faith to tear down the walls that trap our students from reaching opportunity.

A school's Academic Performance Index (API) is a scale that ranges from 200 to 1000 and is calculated from the school's performance in the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program. The state has set 800 as the API target for all schools to meet.

Tennyson High School had an API growth score of 657 in 2012. California uses the Academic Performance Index (API) to measure annual school performance and year-to-year improvement. Tennyson High School's 2012 base score was 658 and the school did not meet its 2012 school-wide growth target.

Athletics

Tennyson High School offers a wide range of interscholastic athletic teams for our students. In order to play a sport the student-athlete must fill out all the following forms located on the bottom of this page. The student-athlete must have a current physical (within a calendar year of the end of the season of sport), medical insurance and their parent or guardian permission before they can participate. If a student-athlete does not have insurance they can pick up low-cost insurance for the school year from a provider that contracts with HUSD. These forms are available at HUSD or in Tennyson High School's Main Office. Student-athletes must also be on track for graduation and maintain a minimum of a 2.0 Grade Point Average.
