Queen of Katwe is an upcoming biographical drama film directed by Mira Nair from a screenplay by William Wheeler.[3] Starring David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong'o, the film depicts the life of Phiona Mutesi, a Ugandan chess prodigy who becomes a Woman Candidate Master after her performances at World Chess Olympiads.[4] The film is produced by Walt Disney Pictures and ESPN Films, and set for a limited release in North America on September 23, 2016, followed by a general theatrical release on September 30.[5]

Production
Principal photography began in March 2015 and wrapped in July of that year.[8][9] The film was shot entirely in South Africa and Uganda.[10]
Release
The first trailer was released on May 10, 2016.[11] The trailers soundtrack is Leona Lewis' song "Thick Skin" from the album I Am.
