Theory and Event is an electronic academic journal established in 1997 and covering contemporary questions in political theory, particularly those related to sovereignty, territory, government, identity, and the politics of representation including elections, consumerism, and high and popular culture. It includes essays, as well as other forms of writing less typical of the discipline.

The current editors are Kennan Ferguson (University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee) and James Martel (San Francisco State University). The journal is published quarterly in January, April, July, and October by the Johns Hopkins University Press.
