Turvey Abbey interior

Turvey Abbey does not have opening hours, it is home to the nuns of the Priory of Our Lady of Peace, a Roman Catholic community living according to the Rule of Saint Benedict and affiliated to the Olivetan family of Benedictines. Contrary to what Google says, the Abbey does not have 'opening hours', and is not open to the public as such, but the community welcomes guests. [1] Turvey Abbey is located in the village of Turvey in the English county of Bedfordshire. It is dated 1605 on the north facade and 1608 on the south facade. The building is stone, with a tile roof.[2] A dovecote, which no longer belongs to the Abbey, is a Grade II listed building.[3]

Historically, Turvey Abbey was a country house and family home. John Higgins developed a Jacobean style house. His son, Charles Longuet Higgins (1806–85), was responsible for the rebuilding of much of Turvey village.[4]

It now has a use that matches its name, as it belongs to the 'Priory of Our Lady of Peace' a Benedictine order of nuns. The 'Monastery of Christ our Saviour', while next door to the Abbey is not part of Turvey Abbey.
