253 Provost Company Royal Military Police (Volunteers), often shortened to 253 Pro Coy RMP(V), is an Army Reserve unit based in Tulse Hill, London. The company previously had a detachment at Southampton, that closed in 2014.

4 Regiment RMP

The company is part of 4th Regiment, Royal Military Police—which is a hybrid Army Reserve and Regular Army unit. The regimental headquarters is located at Mellor House, Buller Barracks, Aldershot Garrison. Also located in Aldershot, is 160 Provost Company which is the Regular RMP Company with responsibility for providing full-time military police supprt within South East England and London.

Recruitment and training

Personnel can join the unit straight from being a civilian, following successful completion of the common recruit selection process undertaken in Aldershot. Selection weekends take place monthly. Volunteer transfers—who are trained soldiers in other corps—can also join the unit and carry out a reduced trade training package, which qualifies them as Military Police men and women.

When on duty, members of the unit can work alongside NCOs of the regular Royal Military Police. Unit members assist regular RMP units on operational deployments and garrison policing duties when required.

In 2006, members of the unit trained in Australia, United States of America, Austria and South Africa. Members also participated in the annual camp in Germany.[1]
