Abdul Qader Saleh was one of the founders of the Tawhid Brigade.[1][2] A merchant from the town of Mare' north of Aleppo, Saleh organized many[specify] of rebel brigades in the region.[3] He was also known as Hajji Mare'.[2] He had led the capture of half of Aleppo at the beginning of the Battle of Aleppo (2012–13).[1] Saleh had survived at least two assassination attempts.[1] He died on 17 November 2013, as a result of an air raid on the Infantry Academy of Al-Muslimiyah north of Aleppo.[3][4] Saleh was a part of the Free Syrian Army official command structure and had ties to local Islamist factions mainly Ahrar ash-Sham.
