Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. Biswas (pronounced in Bengali as "bish-shash") is a common surname in West Bengal, Bihar among Indian Hindus, mostly Bengalis. In Bengali, Biswas means trustworthy.

Some Christians and Muslims of Bangladesh have the surname of Biswas, originating during a later period. Biswas was a title given to trustworthy persons during the Mughal and British period.[citation needed]
