The black ringlet (Erebia melas) is a member of the Satyrinae subfamily of Nymphalidae. It is a high altitude butterfly found in Albania, former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania.
Adults are on wing from July to September.
The larvae feed on Festuca ovina and possibly other grasses. It overwinters in the larval stage.
