Factitious disorders are psychiatric conditions where people feign real disease(s), to gain desired medical attention. This is not to be confused with fictional diseases, illnesses which do not exist. Factitious disorders include "factitious disorder by proxy", also known as Münchausen syndrome by proxy, where a person claims that another person, usually their child, has the alleged illness(es), again to gain medical attention.
