The Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) is an agreement between Japan and India to strengthen bilateral trade. The agreement is to be finalised by the end of 2006. A Joint Study Group (JSG) in its report submitted in July 2006 recommended that the two countries should work towards the establishment of a CECA. The JSG was established to undertake a comprehensive review of economic and commercial relations between India and Japan and give its recommendations on upgrading those linkages in various fields. Japan's total global trade is $ 1019 billion, but its imports from India as a percentage of Japan's total imports are only 0.44 per cent.[1]
