David Oluwaseun Segun Amoo (born 13 April 1991) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker/winger for Partick Thistle in the Scottish Premiership. He started his career as a youth player at Liverpool, where he has spells on loan at Milton Keynes Dons, Hull City and Bury. Amoo spent time at Preston North End, Tranmere Rovers and eventually Carlisle United, before joining Partick Thistle in July 2015.

Career

Liverpool

Amoo played for Millwall as a youth, leaving at 16 years of age to sign for Liverpool in 2007.[2] Amoo was in the Liverpool's squad for the FA Youth Cup Finals in 2009 when they lost 6–2 to Arsenal Reserves.[3]

He signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool in 2010, having successfully worked his way through the Liverpool Academy and Reserves to train with the first-team at Melwood in 2009.[4][5] He was also named in Liverpool's 2009–10 UEFA Champions League squad.[6]

Amoo was named in Liverpool's 2010–11 UEFA Europa League Third qualifying round squad for a match on 28 July 2010,[7] and made his debut for the club the following day, starting in a 2–0 away win[8] in a tie against FK Rabotnički at the Philip II Arena in Skopje, Macedonia.[9]

Loan Spells

On 25 January 2011 he joined Milton Keynes Dons on a month loan,[10] and made his Football League debut for the club on the same day as a 65th-minute substitute against Leyton Orient.[11] Just only made three appearance for the club, Amoo returned to his parent club on 23 February 2011.[12]

On 28 February 2011, he joined Football League Championship side Hull City on loan until the end of the season.[13] He made his debut coming on as a replacement for Jay Simpson in the 1–0 win against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.[14] He scored his first goal for Hull City, in a 1–1 draw against Queens Park Rangers on 25 April 2011.[15]

On 23 September 2011, Amoo joined Bury on loan for a month.[16] Amoo made his Bury debut the next day, coming on as a substitute for Mike Jones, in a 0–0 draw against Milton Keynes Dons.[17] On 1 October, Amoo scored his first goal for Bury, a glancing header on 67 minutes to give Bury the lead in a 3–1 victory over Yeovil Town.[18] After making four appearance and scoring once, Amoo had his loan extended until 1 January 2012.[19] Amoo's performance at Bury soon earn praise from team-mate Peter Sweeney.[20] Amoo scored his second Bury goal, in a 1–0 win over Preston on 26 November 2011.[21] Amoo then had his loan spell extended with Bury until the end of the season.[22] Amoo then scored two goals in two matches, both came in a loss against Exeter City[23] and Milton Keynes Dons.[24] Throughout the season, Amoo made 27 league appearances for the club, scoring four goals. Amoo missed ten games combined from separate injuries.[25][26]

Preston North End and Tranmere Rovers

He agreed to join Preston North End in May 2012 when his contract expired with Liverpool on 1 July.[27] Amoo made his Preston North End, coming on as a substitute for David Buchanan in the 56th minutes, in a 0–0 draw against Colchester United in the opening game of the season.[28] His first goal for the club came on 3 November as they beat Yeovil in an FA Cup match.[29] After making one start and the majority of his appearances coming from off the bench, Amoo was linked with a move to Tranmere Rovers, but the club refused to sell him.[30] Despite making fourteen appearance for the club, Amoo left the club in January 2013 when his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.[31]

On 9 January 2013, he joined Tranmere Rovers until the end of the season.[32] Following his move there, Amoo expressed happy of having second chance at Tranmere Rovers, having rejected the move in favor of Preston North End.[33] Amoo scored on his debut two days later, in a 2–0 win over Crawley Town.[34] However, Amoo's first team at the club was soon limited, due to reducing playing time and the majority of his appearances coming from off the bench, Amoo was among five players to be released.[35]

Carlisle United

As the club's first summer signing, on 13 June 2013, Amoo signed a two-year deal with Carlisle United.[36] Following the move, Amoo said he was motivated to join the club to link up with Manager Greg Abbott.[37]

He scored his first goal against Leyton Orient on 3 August 2013 in the opening game of the season, which saw Carlisle United lose 5–1 disastrously.[38] He later went on to score a brace in the League Cup four days later against Blackburn Rovers.[39] Amoo scored again in the League Cup, in a 5–1 loss against Leicester City.[40] Between 21 September and 5 October 2013, Amoo scored three goals in three games against Stevenage,[41] Notts County[42] and Shrewsbury Town.[43] Amoo scored and provided an assist, in a 4–1 win against his former club, Tranmere Rovers, on 14 December 2014.[44] Amoo then scored his first brace, in a 2–1 win over Peterborough United on 29 December 2013.[45] He scored his eighth of the season, in a 1–1 draw against Milton Keynes Dons on 28 January 2014.[46] However, Amoo struggled to score more goals throughout the 2013–14 season, as the club were relegated to League Two after finishing 22nd. Nevertheless, Amoo was the club's top-scorer with 11 goals in all competitions. Amoo was awarded Players' Player of the Season and United Trust Player of the Season.[47]

In the 2014–15 season, Amoo appeared one game in the opening game of the season before suffering ankle injury.[48] Amoo made his return from injury against Cambridge United on 30 August 2014.[49] Amoo then scored two goals in two games against Mansfield Town[50] and Tranmere Rovers.[51] Later in the 2014–15 season, Amoo added three more goals against Newport County,[52] Morecambe[53] and Wimbledon.[54] However, Amoo ended his season with five goals in 27 appearance after a groin sustained during a match against Northampton Town kept him out for the entire season.[55]

On 4 May 2015, Amoo was among eight players to be released by Carlisle following the close of the 2014–15 season.[56]

Partick Thistle

Amoo joined Scottish Premiership side Partick Thistle on a one-year deal on 1 July 2015.[57] Amoo scored his first goal for Partick Thistle in a 2-1 defeat to Motherwell on 26 September 2015.[58]

On 13 May 2016, Amoo signed a new contact at Partick Thistle on a one-year deal. [59]

Personal life

Amoo represented London as a sprinter in the English Schools National Track and Field Championships.[60][61] Amoo grew up supporting Chelsea and watched all the Chelsea games.[62] He has a younger brother, Jeremiah, who plays for West Ham United's Academy.
