Dollarway High School is a comprehensive public high school in Pine Bluff, Arkansas that serves grades 9 through 12. It is one of three public high schools in Pine Bluff and the only high school managed by the Dollarway School District. Within the state, the school is often referred to as Pine Bluff Dollarway.

Academics

The assumed course of study is the Smart Core curriculum developed by the Arkansas Department of Education. Students may engage in regular and Advanced Placement (AP) coursework and exams prior to graduation. Dollarway has been accredited by AdvancED (formerly North Central Association) since 1962.[3]

Extracurricular activities

The Dollarway High School mascot is the Cardinal bird with school colors of cardinal and white.

Athletics

For 2012-14, the Dollarway Cardinals participate in the 4A Region 2 Conference for interscholastic activities administered by the Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) including baseball, basketball (boys/girls), cheer, dance, cross country, football, golf (boys/girls), softball, and track and field.[4][5]

  • Football: The football team won 3 consecutive state football championship in 1988, 1989, 1990, with a combined record of 40-2.
  • Golf: The boys golf team won a state golf championship in 1960.
  • Basketball: The Cardinals boys basketball team was a 2013 state championship finalist; losing to the Pottsville Apaches 54-50.
  • Track and field: The boys track team won a state track and field championship in 1990.

The following are notable people associated with Dollarway High School. If the person was a Dollarway High School student, the number in parentheses indicates the year of graduation; if the person was a faculty or staff member, that person's title and years of association are included.

  • Carl Kidd - American football player in the NFL and CFL.
  • Carl Johnson - University of Arkansas football player 1991-1995, Carl Johnson an All-American Tight-End/RB/Receiver was the most complete athlete in pine bluff in the 90's. Johnson who was recruited heavily by Universities such as Arkansas, Tennessee, Nebraska, Alabama, Texas and LSU just to name a few, was offered a scholarship by mostly every University in division I football. Johnson chose to attend the University of Arkansas which helped improve the local recruiting in pine bluff years after he left. Johnson is the nephew of the great RB (Joe Johnson) Alumni of UAPB/ AM&N.
  • Kim Hartsfield (1985) - Author, game content writer and game designer for Troll Lord Games.
  • Dr. Christy Walker is a board certified gynecologic surgeon and fellow of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is also a fellowship trained cosmetic surgeon. She is also an accredited Associate of the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation Institute of America and is the first physician to offer Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation in Arkansas.

Dr. Walker received her degree in biology with minor in chemistry from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. There she graduated summa cum laude and was a recipient of the Chancellors Medallion. The award is given to graduates with the highest grade point average in their academic school. Dr. Walker then went on to receive her Doctorate of Medicine and complete her residency training at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

*Dr. Kristy King is an internist in Little Rock, Arkansas. She received her medical degree from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine and has been in practice for 14 years.
