God's Creatures was announced on May 22, 2019, when it was reported that Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer would direct a then-untitled Gothic film produced by Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly.[1] In June 2020, it was announced that BBC Film, Screen Ireland, and the Western Region Audiovisual Producer's Fund (WRAP) would finance the project.[2] In May 2021, Emily Watson and Paul Mescal joined the cast and production began that same month with cinematographer Chayse Irvin. During post-production, editing will be completed by Julia Bloch.[3]
