Heart in the Right Place is a song by Elton John with lyrics written by Gary Osborne. It is the second track of his 1981 album, The Fox. It is basically a blues song, one of the few blues songs of his career. The lyrics pretty much describe Elton's relationship to journalists at the time, the tabloids, and the papers. The vocal is heavily influenced by John Lennon, whose death occurred while recording the album. Musically it features plenty of phasers and special keyboard effects.

As described by Allmusic, this could easily be a follow-up to his Caribou-album track, "Stinker".
