History

Old documents tell us that this town was called "Jalalpur Qatal Wah" or "Jalalpur Sadat". Now-a-days, it is known as "Jalal Pur Pir Wala". It has been suggested that the founder of the town is Hazrat Syed Sultan Ahmad Bukhari (May Allah Bless Him), a famous saint who was born in one of nearby villages named, "Uch" in 1542. Preaching Islamic education in different areas, he came across here permanently settled in 1582. He died here in 1631. It is considered that he kept the name of city town "Jalal Pur" on the name of one of his ancestors, Hazrat Syed Jalal-Uddin Bukhari (May Allah Bless Him). There is a shrine of H.S. Sultan Ahmad Bukhari in the central city town of JPPW.

During the Mughal reign, JPPW was an important town as in the reign of Akbar and secured the position of Capital of subdivisions of Multan Province. After Mughals' Decline, head of Bahawalpur named Nawab Mubarak Khan included JPPW in his estate but afterwards it was included in Multan Province by Nawab Muzaffar Khan of Multan after its capture. A famous European tourist Charless Man came across this city town in 1827. He writes about the city town,

"When British captured Punjab in 1849 & then the whole Hindustan in 1857, they governed the continent by their own style, so JPPW was graded to "Town Company" in 1873."

On June 1991, this city town was upgraded to "Tehsil Headquarter". Govt. Degree College For Boys was established on September 7, 1999 and notification to make it permanent was issued on September 9, 2002. Govt. Degree College For Girls was established fully on 2008.

Economy

Hazrat Pir Syed Jalaluddin Surkh-Posh Bukhari was born in 595 Hijri in Bukhara (now in Uzbekistan). He came to Uch Sharif, Bahawalpur from Bukhara in 642 Hijri and stayed in Uch Sharif till his death in 690 Hijri. All is life he preached true Islamic teachings and converted people of the area to Islam. His shrine is in Uch Sharif and is a center of devotion for the masses. Hazrat Pir Syed Sultan Ahmad Qataal was born from the line of Hazrat Jalal-ul-din Bukhari in 949 Hijri and is regarded as a born Wali (Saint). After completion of his religious education, he performed Hajj pilgrimage. He visited the shrine of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad in Medina Saudi Arabia and then visited Karbala, Najaf, Kazmain, Samara (Iraq) and finally started teaching the religion in Bukhara. He came to Multan (Pakistan) from Bukhara and converted the tribes of Suldhara and Lukhwara, among others, to Islam and in 990 Hijri. He eventually came to Jalalpur and made the city his home. He put the foundation of this city and named it Jalalpur after his grand father Syed Jalal-ul-din Bukhari. In some books it is called Jalalpur Sadaat but now it is known as Jalalpur Pirwala.

One day when Pir Hazrat Mukhdome Ali Sarwar was sleeping, birds were making noise in the trees. Hazrat Pir Sultan Ahmad Qataal noticed that these birds are interfering with the sleep of Pir Ali Sarwar, he ordered the birds to die. All birds fell down dead from the tree.
