She also writes young adult science fiction/fantasy as C. J. Hill and adult romantic novels as Sierra St. James.[1] Rallison grew up in Pullman, Washington and later moved to Chandler, Arizona. She attended college at Brigham Young University where she studied English Teaching. She is married to a rockets scientist [2] and has five children and one grandchild.

Writing career

Janette has proven her ability to write for all ages. She has written several middle grade books, many young adult novels, as well as novels and short stories for adults.

Janette kicked off her writing career working for an LDS publishing company writing romantic adult novels under the pen name Sierra St. James. She has recently acquired the rights to these books and has been re-editing and republishing them (Her Erasing Time series under her pen name C.J. Hill is an example of this). In an attempt to gain a wider audience, Rallison’s publishers had her use the pen name C.J. Hill. She has written the Slayers trilogy as well as the Erasing Time series under this name. Rallison became a national author when she began writing romantic comedies for young adults, which she is most recognized for writing. The Fairy Godmother books established her as a successful author and has been one of her most popular series. Though she has started writing books filled with more action and adventure, the hallmark of Rallison’s writing is her comedic voice that permeates throughout her novels..

Themes

Rallison's books are upbeat and uplifting stories that are for pleasure and entertainment. She writes on her website that "If your teacher asks you to identify symbolism in my books you have my permission to tell him/her that I didn’t put any in."[3] She has however stated that the element of forgiveness is very prevalent in her books and would be what she would classify as the overarching theme of her writing.[4]
