Jean-Claude Clausel de Coussergues
Jean-Claude Clausel de Coussergues (4 December 1759 – 7 July 1846) was a French politician.
Biography
He was born into a French noble family on December 4, 1759. During the French Revolution, in 1792, he emigrated in the Condé army. Clausel de Coussergues was deputy of Aveyron during the First Empire and the Restoration ans was created knight of the Empire by letters patent in 1810. He was one of the drafters of the declaration of Saint-Ouen under the reign of King Louis XVIII and a member of the Chambre introuvable as deputy of Aveyron, sitting with the Ultras.[1]
In 1820, he impeached in the Chamber of Deputies the Duke Decazes,[2] whom he believed to be linked to the assassination of Charles-Ferdinand d'Artois, duke of Berry.[3]
He was a counselor at the Court of Cassation at the time of the Revolution of 1830 but he resigned for not pledging allegiance to King Louis Philippe I.
He was a close friend of François-René de Chateaubriand[4][5] who mentioned him in the Mémoires d'Outre-Tombe.
Clausel de Coussergues died on July 7, 1846.
