John A. Carter

John A. Carter (born May 15, 1933) is a farmer and former politician in Newfoundland. He represented St. John's North in the Newfoundland House of Assembly from 1971 to 1989.[1][2]

The son of Allan George Carter and Eda Mobel,[2] he was born in St. John's and was educated at Bishop Field College, at Saint Bonaventure's College and at Memorial University. He owned and operated Mount Scio Savoury Farms, a major producer of summer savoury in the Canadian Maritimes.[1]

In 1960, Carter married Brenda Narjorie Murphy.[2]

He was first elected to the Newfoundland assembly in 1971 and was reelected in 1972, 1975, 1979, 1982 and 1985.[3] Carter served in the provincial cabinet as Minister of Education and Youth.[1]
