Louisiana Highway 22 (LA 22) is a state highway in Louisiana that serves St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Livingston, and Ascension Parishes. It spans 71.85 miles (115.63 km) in a rough east/west direction and is bannered in each cardinal direction (depending on the location).

Route description

Madisonville's colorful waterfront, viewed here looking north from the drawbridge on LA 22, features outdoor dining along the Tchefuncte River estuary.

From the east, LA 22 begins at an intersection with U.S. Highway 190 in Mandeville. LA 22 then runs due west, intersecting LA 21 in Madisonville. LA 22 then enters Tangipahoa Parish, where it is cosigned for approximately 1 mile with LA 445 south of Robert. Continuing due west, LA 22 intersects U.S. Highway 51 and then Interstate 55 in Ponchatoula. In Livingston Parish, LA 22 intersects LA 42 in Springfield and then turns southwestward. LA 22 passes through Killian and intersects LA 16 south of French Settlement before entering Ascension Parish. In Ascension Parish, LA 22 intersects US 61(Airline Highway), Interstate 10, and LA 70 in Sorrento. LA 22 then intersects LA 44 before ending at an intersection with LA 75 and LA 942 at the Mississippi River at Darrow.

LA 22 is prevailingly an undivided, two-lane highway. At is eastern terminus with US 190, LA 22 is four-lane divided and shortly goes to five lanes undivided (with a center turn lane) and then three lanes undivided (two-way traffic with a center turn lane). The center turn lane disappears east of Madisonville, and the highway is two lane until Ponchatoula, through which it is four or five lanes undivided. West of Ponchatoula, LA 22 narrows to two lanes but retains broad shoulders to Springfield, from which it is a two-lane road for the remainder.
