Trends in the top five gold-producing countries

This list of countries by gold production for 2014.

For many years until 2006, South Africa was the world's dominant gold producer, but recently, other countries with large surface area have surpassed South Africa, including China, Russia, the United States, Peru and Australia, although none have approached South Africa's peak production which occurred in the 1970s.[1] Note the figures are for primary production, in the US, for example, for the years 2010-14, new and old scrap exceeded both primary production and reported domestic consumption.[2]
