Malaysian El Clasico[2] is the name given to football matches that involves Pahang FC and Johor Darul Ta'zim F.C. (JDT). The derby started since the rebranding of JDT and were billed first by former Pahang striker, Dickson Nwakaeme.[3]

The rivalry comes about as both clubs were backed by royalty of their state. Pahang royals were viewed as conservative and golden boy of Football Association of Malaysia while Johor Darul Ta'zim F.C. were seen as young rebels. This have created a scene on and off the pitch among the players, clubs and supporters.[4]The matches between these two teams were massively anticipated, even by neutral fans.[5]
