Melissa Fitzgerald is an American actress. She played Carol Fitzpatrick, assistant to C. J. Cregg, on The West Wing.

Life and career

Fitzgerald graduated from Springside School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and earned a B.A. in Drama and Literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Her father is prominent Pennsylvania judge James Fitzgerald; and her mother, Carole, is involved in politics and volunteer work in Philadelphia.

She is the founder of Voices in Harmony, a non-profit community theater in Los Angeles.

In 1990, Melissa met actor Noah Emmerich, who acted in such movies as The Truman Show, Beautiful Girls, and Miracle. Melissa herself appears an extra in The Truman Show and can be seen in the dance scene, where she is one of the other people dancing. They were married November 28, 1998. They are now divorced.

On January 19, 2007, Nicholas D. Kristof of The New York Times announced that Fitzgerald had won a writing contest he had sponsored on Darfur.

On May 17, 2008, Melissa received the Chestnut Hill College Medal; and she was the graduation speaker for the commencement exercises of Chestnut Hill College's class of 2008.

Melissa's resumé states that she is a ranked tennis player and skilled in badminton, hiking, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, fencing.
