Minoru Kawabata (22 May 1911 – 29 June 2001) Japanese artist, whose works comprise Abstract Expressionist, Color field paintings.[1]
Life and work
Kawabata was born in Tokyo in 1911. He graduated from Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts in 1934. He studied in Paris and Italy between 1937-39. Starting in 1950 he taught art at the Tam University, Tokyo; he was a professor of art there until 1955.[citation needed]
At the New School for Social Research in New York City he taught for three years until 1961. Having spent two years in Japan he returned to New York.[2] He painted in an Abstract Expressionist style in the 1950s and in a colour field style after the 1960s.[3]
